Tunis je kolevka mnogih kultura i naroda. Prvi narodi koji su se doselili na tlo Tunisa su bili Feničani koji su se doselili 814. i osnovali grad Kartaginu. Tako se zvala njihova država - Kartagina.
Tunis je država Severne Afrike i Magreba. Njen geografski položaj je povoljan,sa izlazom na Sredozemno more,i sa ne tako velikom povrsinom pustinje. Tunis je većinom planinska zemlja. Vegetacija nije raznovrsna.
Glavni grad Tunisa je Tunis, a ostali veći gradovi su Keouran, Monastir, Sus, Jafa. Tunis ima oko 9.6 miliona stanovnika, 2 miliona žive u gradu Tunisu.
